John represents both private and government organizations in employment and complex litigation matters, ranging from cases brought by individuals to broad-scale class and collective actions. On the employment side, John's practice focuses on representing clients in litigation and providing day-to-day counseling regarding federal and state employment laws, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. As a member of the firm's Complex Litigation Group, John represents clients in business versus business contract disputes, fraud and conspiracy claims, RICO claims, professional malpractice claims, municipal and county liability matters, whistle-blower claims and various other business tort claims.
Obtained summary judgment in a reverse-race discrimination action against a metro-Atlanta municipality.
Represented a restaurant franchise in a federal lawsuit brought pursuant to the Family and Medical Leave Act. The case was settled for a nominal amount days after John deposed the Plaintiff.
Successfully defended a non-profit organization in a $500,000 breach of contract lawsuit brought by one of the nation’s largest privately held companies. The case was dismissed with prejudice by the plaintiff without money changing hands during the discovery period.
Successfully defended a municipality against claims of sexual harassment brought by a former employee. The case was settled for a miniscule amount shortly after John deposed the plaintiff.
Defended a chemical manufacturer in a complex toxic tort case brought by 9 individuals allegedly exposed to hexavalent chromium. The case was settled for approximately 4% of the amount of the initial demand.
Served as the lead associate on a multi-million dollar breach of contract and civil conspiracy lawsuit brought by a construction firm against a local board of education, which was dismissed after the filing of dispositive motions.
Successfully defended one of the Southeast’s largest farmers markets in a collective action wage and hour suit. By taking quick and decisive action shortly after the filing of the suit, John secured the dismissal of the claim and prevented class certification.
Represented the former President of a condominium association in a shareholder’s derivative action involving allegations of breach of fiduciary duty. The case was dismissed, without money changing hands, after John obtained sanctions against the plaintiff.
Obtained a multi-million dollar settlement against an AmLaw 200 law firm in a professional malpractice dispute.
Currently defending numerous private and governmental entities in employment claims alleging discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistle-blower retaliation claims, and wage and hour violations.
Currently defending one of the nation’s largest staffing firms in a complex tort and breach contract action stemming from a former employee’s alleged embezzlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars and representing a commercial real estate developer in a negligent misrepresentation action involving in excess of $1 million dollars in damages.
